Jay Hecker - carpenter, designer and project manager in durango, co

Greetings.
I have been in the industry of working with wood and building since I graduated from high school in central New England. I started in a furniture factory as an assembler. The work was fine but I knew I wanted to be outdoors more so I became a carpenter’s laborer.

Jay Hecker - durango project managerDESIGNER ~ Through these years as a carpenter I have experienced some beautiful structure that I have been proud to have been involved with and I have also seen attempts miss there make. I bring these experiences to my designs. I have a good feel of what works and what does not.

In general, I design simply, smaller structures with an emphasis on comfort in the dwelling not square footage. Environmental responsive design is a process of making informed choices to create healthy, comfortable buildings that are in harmony with the environment and our selves. Utilizing a sustainable design philosophy encourages decisions at each phase of the design process that will reduce negative impacts on the environment and the health of the occupants, without compromising the bottom line. Such an integrated approach positively impacts all phases of a building’s life-cycle, including design, construction, and operation.

Insight Designs is dedicated to a humanistic, socially responsible and technologically sophisticated vision of design. Every project, whether residential or commercial it is thoughtfully designed with an emphasis on reduced energy consumption, project foot print and sustainability.

PROJECT MANAGER ~ For a span of over a dozen years I was a lead carpenter and project manager Jay Hecker - Durango carpenterfor a local contractor who builds large custom homes and remodels. Handling the sub-contractors and their schedules and ordering materials and having them on the job when they are need was both challenging and rewarding. Through these years I found myself constantly refining my organizational skills. Which include oversized calendars and lists, many lists.

With these years of my involvement I have learned that to be a good carpenter, designer, and project manager/contractor need to be on-site to handle the almost daily decisions necessary to keep a project moving and that is why I continue to stay on a project to see it through to it completion

WOODWORKER ~ I was trained by an old French Canadian trim carpenter and I quickly advanced up the ladder to owning my first contracting business at the age of 23. Since then I have had many milestones in my vocational development. I feel as though my experience in the field is well polished but I continue to look to refinement my craft.
